GROW
There is something special when you pick the first tomato in the middle of summer and realize that the towering 8-foot plant and the beautiful, unique, flavorful fruit in front of you that can't be found in any grocery store all came from a tiny seed you buried in a tray months ago.
SEEDINGS
The seedlings we start target a balance between hardy hybrid plants and unique/rare heirlooms that can't be found in grocery stores. Hybrids, also known as "F1 plants", offer a variety of benefits such as more prolific harvests and disease resistance (can learn more about hybrids HERE). Heirlooms, or open-pollinated plants that have been passed down for years, often represent uniquely colorful or flavorful varieties. Our focus is combining the best of both types to offer a wide variety of delicious plants for you to grow!
VEGETABLES,HERBS, & FLOWERS
Excess veggies and herbs from our garden are given away to friends and neighbors. As we potentially grow our planting spaces over time, we would love to open up a farmers' market stand to distribute some of this abundance to the community.
MUSHROOMS
What started with discovering an interesting looking mushroom growing out of a fallen log in the Irvington Woods turned into the realization that shiitake mushrooms (and other species of fungi) could be grown and harvested using logs as the "growing medium." We have partnered with local tree care companies to use their waste products (mainly large branches and small logs cut down from only healthy trees) to grow a majority of our mushrooms. Some other varieties like oyster mushrooms are grown in other sterilized mediums like straw or coffee grounds. You can read and learn more about log inoculation HERE.
